Description

A Japanese katana, including its complete black lacquered koshirae (mountings) and a separate plain wooden shirasaya. The steel blade features a distinct curvature, with its tang (nakago) bearing engraved Japanese characters (mei) and a single mekugi-ana. The shirasaya is extensively inscribed with Japanese text on its exterior. Accompanying the sword is a folded Japanese paper document, which displays further Japanese text, red seals, and rubbings (oshigata) of the blade’s tang. The document appears to be an appraisal certificate from the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NTHK), classifying the sword as ‘Tokubetsu Kicho’ (Especially Important/Precious).

Condition report:

The sword components appear to be in good antique condition with visible signs of use and age, including minor scuffs and wear to the lacquer on the koshirae. The blade shows expected signs of age and handling. The accompanying document exhibits wear consistent with its age but remains largely legible.
