Description

A pair of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock print triptychs, dating to the Edo or Meiji Period. The upper triptych depicts a battle scene, with the title ‘本能寺合戦’ (Honno-ji Kassen) visible on the rightmost sheet, and a large yellow text cartouche on the central sheet. The lower triptych features multiple figures in indoor and outdoor settings, with a figure identified as ‘武蔵坊弁慶’ (Musashibo Benkei) on the central sheet. The leftmost sheet of this triptych is signed ‘一扇斎豊宣画’ (Issensai Toyonobu ga) and bears a circular red seal. All prints are rendered in the characteristic Ukiyo-e style on paper.

Condition report:

The prints exhibit characteristic colors for the medium, though with varying degrees of fading, particularly in the blue and red pigments. General paper toning, minor edge wear, and small pinholes along the top edge of several sheets are apparent, consistent with age and previous handling.
