JG AI Test
Lot 143:
Description
A pair of Japanese polychrome woodblock prints, executed in the Ukiyo-e style and dating to the Edo period. Each print depicts a standing female figure, one appearing as a bijinga (beautiful woman) and the other with a more theatrical countenance suggestive of a yakusha-e (actor print). Both figures hold large yellow umbrellas with detailed patterns. The figures are rendered with distinctive facial features and elaborate kimonos. Visible markings on both prints include multiple vertical cartouches containing Japanese characters (kanji), indicative of artist signatures, series titles, and publisher seals. The signature ‘Utagawa Kunisada ga’ is legible on the lower left of the first print.
Condition report:
Overall paper toning, some pigment fading (notably in the yellow and blue hues), minor creasing, and slight edge wear, consistent with their age.
