Description

A Japanese woodblock print (ukiyo-e) from the late Edo or early Meiji period, likely 19th century, depicting a dramatic scene of two male figures engaged in combat. The upper half of the composition features extensive Japanese calligraphic text, including a red-ground vertical title cartouche in the upper right. Further vertical text blocks and what appear to be artist and/or publisher marks are visible in the lower right and left, including a red lotus-like seal at the lower left.

Condition report:

The print exhibits visible horizontal creasing, overall paper toning, and some areas of discoloration or foxing consistent with age. While blue pigments remain relatively strong, other colors, such as greens and reds, appear somewhat faded. Minor handling wear is present.
