Description

This lot consists of two Japanese woodblock print triptychs, comprising a total of six individual sheets, executed in the ukiyo-e style. The upper triptych illustrates a bustling scene with numerous figures in traditional Japanese attire, including a prominent male figure in a Western-style military uniform, gathered within an interior setting that overlooks an outdoor vista featuring a bridge, a river, boats, and horses, strongly suggesting a Meiji period dating. The lower triptych consists of three panels depicting bijin-ga (beautiful women), with two full-length female figures in elaborate kimonos and a central panel featuring a landscape with a torii-like structure and a pine tree. Visible Japanese calligraphy is present on its leftmost panel. All six sheets appear to be on paper.

Condition report:

The upper triptych exhibits light fading to colors, varying in degree across the panels. The lower triptych shows more pronounced color fading and overall paper toning. All six sheets display general wear, including edge fraying and discoloration, consistent with their age.
