Description

A set of three Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints, depicting male figures in samurai attire, some mounted on or standing with horses, and often equipped with bows and quivers. Executed in the characteristic ukiyo-e style with bold outlines and flat areas of color, these prints are on paper and are likely from the Edo or Meiji period. Each print features a prominent cartouche in the upper right with Japanese text, including the series title “英雄三十六歌撰” (Thirty-six Selected Poems of Heroes). Artist’s seals and signatures are present in the lower right. Two of the three prints also include narrow vertical text cartouches along the left or right edges.

Condition report:

Consistent with age. General paper toning, minor creasing, visible foxing, and varying degrees of color fading are present across the set. No apparent tears or significant losses.
