Description

This lot comprises two Japanese woodblock print diptychs, each consisting of two separate sheets, rendered in the *ukiyo-e* style and dating from the 19th century. Both diptychs depict multi-figure scenes from the “Shin Sen Taikōki” (新撰太閤記) series, clearly identified by prominent title cartouches located at the top of each print. The upper diptych illustrates four male figures in an outdoor setting with trees. The lower diptych portrays multiple male figures in an indoor setting, including one scene featuring figures gathered around a map. Each print includes additional red vertical cartouches for specific character or scene identification, as well as visible artist signatures or publisher marks typically located in the lower sections. The prints are rendered on paper.

Condition report:

The colors appear generally vibrant with good retention. There is evidence of expected age-related toning, minor creasing, and surface wear consistent with the medium and period. Some fading is present, particularly in the blue and green pigments.
