g Edward VII (1901-10), impaired matt proof gold Five Pounds, 1902, Coronation year, bare head right, De S. below truncation for engraver George W De Saulles, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP:, rev. St George slaying the dragon with sword, broken lance to lower left, tiny B.P. in exergue for engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, edge milled, 39.92g (Hill T41; S.3966). Heavily scuffed and surface marked both sides, otherwise very fine.
Condition report:
Calendar year mintage of 8,066.The Latin legend on the obverse translates as Edward the Seventh, by the grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India.Though impaired with the surface marks this coin would appear to have been once the matt proof judging by its colouration and relict surfaces.
