Charles I (1625-49), gold Unite, group B, class 1b, bust 2b, second crowned and draped bust in ruff left, wider crown, value XX in field behind, drapery intrudes Latin legend with toothed border surrounding, initial mark upright anchor struck both sides (1628-29) possibly struck over tower on reverse, no stops at mint mark, CAROLVS. D; G; MAG; BR; FRA; ET HIB; REX, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, legend without stops and toothed border surrounding, FLORENT CONCORDIA REGNA, 9.03g (Schneider 124-5; Brooker 51; N.2148; S.2688). Well centred and struck, some light hairline marks and scratches and perhaps once cleaned, otherwise good very fine.


Condition report:

The abbreviated obverse legend translates as Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland. and on the reverse I reign under the auspice of Christ.The 22 carat crown gold output for the anchor mint mark across all the gold denominations from the 1st April 1628 until the 31st March 1629 is recorded as a face value of £137,358 which is the seventh highest output of the reign.
