g William IV (1830-37), gold Sovereign, 1837, second bare head right, nose points to second I in legend with flat topped ear, W.W. incuse on truncation, GULIELMUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D: toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, ANNO 1837 below, 8.00g (Bentley 32; Hill 21; EGC.1031; M.C.E.494; S.3829B). Once cleaned some nicks and marks a bold very fine.
Condition report:
The calendar year mintage of Sovereigns for 1837 totals 1,172,984, a mintage which is less than a third of the total of the more common year of 1832.The Latin legends translate on obverse as William IV by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith, and on the reverse In the year 1837.
