Lot 100:
Description
This is a modern commemorative collectors’ card produced for the military memorabilia market, likely dating from the late 20th or early 21st century. The card honours the aviation history of the Handley Page Halifax heavy bomber and the service of No. 10 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. It features the squadron’s motto, To hit the mark. The item is hand-signed in black ink by Warrant Officer R. (Ron) Tomlin, a veteran who served with the unit in Europe during the Second World War. The card is printed on heavy white cardstock with a decorative triple-line border. No. 10 Squadron was a noted heavy bomber unit during the conflict, and such signed ephemera serves as a personal link to the aircrews of Bomber Command. Printed text at the bottom states: This Special Edition card has been personally signed by a Veteran who flew in the Handley Page Halifax while serving with No 10 Squadron in Europe.
Condition report:
The card is in excellent, near-mint condition. The paper is bright white and crisp with no signs of foxing, yellowing, or age-related wear. There are no tears, folds, or creases, and the corners and edges remain sharp. A very faint, minor smudge is visible on the right-hand margin outside the printed border; however, as the item is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve, this mark may be on the plastic rather than the cardstock itself.
