Description

A Royal Air Force commemorative Special Edition card dedicated to the Avro Lancaster and No. 156 Squadron, Pathfinder Force (PFF). The card features the squadron’s official motto, We light the way, and has been personally hand-signed in ink by Warrant Officer J.R. Jack Watson, DFM, Ld’H. During the Second World War, No. 156 Squadron operated as part of the elite Pathfinder Force, tasked with the perilous duty of navigating ahead of the main bomber stream to mark targets with flares. Warrant Officer Watson was a highly decorated flyer; the Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM) was a high-level gallantry award for non-commissioned aircrew, while his French Légion d’honneur (Ld’H) signifies his service in the liberation of France. This item represents a significant piece of Bomber Command ephemera, linking directly to the specialised crews who led the RAF’s strategic bombing campaign over occupied Europe.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent condition. The cardstock remains clean and bright with sharp corners and no evidence of creasing, foxing, or surface wear. The signature is bold, legible, and well-preserved without fading. The item is currently housed in a clear protective plastic sleeve.
