Description

This item is a signed Special Edition commemorative card dedicated to the Avro Lancaster heavy bomber and the veterans of No. 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Produced in the late 20th or early 21st century, the card is printed on heavy white paper stock with a blue double-rule border. The card features the squadron motto, Mind over matter, and a printed statement confirming the signature is from a veteran who flew the Lancaster in the European theatre during the Second World War.

The card is hand-signed in pencil by Flight Lieutenant K. Fillingham, DFC. The veteran has added his honours and unit specialisation: D.F.C. 101 SQN A.B.C. The acronym A.B.C. refers to Airborne Cigar, a top-secret radio jamming system used by 101 Squadron to disrupt German night-fighter communications. This specialised role required an additional eighth crew member who was often a linguist, making 101 Squadron unique among Lancaster units. Signatures from veterans of this specific unit are of significant interest to RAF and aviation history collectors.

Transcribed text: AVRO LANCASTER, No. 101 Squadron Royal Air Force, Mind over matter, Flight Lieutenant K. Fillingham DFC. This Special Edition card has been personally signed by a Veteran who flew the Avro Lancaster while serving with No. 101 Squadron in Europe.
