Lot 121:
Description
This is a commemorative special edition card celebrating the history of the Royal Air Force (RAF) Avro Lancaster bomber and No. 49 Squadron. Produced in the late 20th to early 21st century, the card is printed on heavy white stock with a blue double-lined border. It features the hand-signed signature of veteran Steve Bethell in black ink, followed by the initials A.G., denoting his role as an Air Gunner. No. 49 Squadron was a significant unit within Bomber Command during the Second World War, and their motto, Beware of the dog, is prominently displayed. The card includes a printed confirmation stating it was personally signed by a Veteran who flew in the Avro Lancaster while serving with No. 49 Squadron in Europe. Such items were often produced in limited numbers for veterans’ reunions or military history collectors to preserve the legacy of the aircrews. The text transcribed includes: AVRO LANCASTER, No. 49 Squadron Royal Air Force, Beware of the dog, Steve Bethell A/G., and Warrant Officer S. Bethell. 148mm x 210mm.
Condition report:
The item is in excellent, near-mint condition. There are no visible signs of foxing, toning, staining, or paper degradation. The edges and corners remain sharp and free from bumps or tears. The signature is clear and bold without fading. It is currently preserved in a clear plastic protective sleeve.
