Description
A “Special Edition” commemorative card issued by Matchbox Collectibles as part of their Platinum Edition series, dedicated to the Supermarine Spitfire and No. 81 Squadron, Royal Air Force. The card is hand-signed in blue ink by Flight Lieutenant Sydney Philip Moston, DFM, MiD. Moston was a distinguished veteran who flew Spitfires with No. 81 Squadron during the North African Desert campaign. His post-nominal letters signify high gallantry: the Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM), awarded to non-commissioned officers for acts of valour while flying in active operations, and a Mention in Despatches (MiD). Condition report:
The card is in excellent, clean condition. It is printed on white cardstock with a decorative gold double-line border. The orange and black typography remains sharp and vibrant. The hand-signed signature by Flight Lieutenant Moston is bold and shows no evidence of fading or smudging. The item is currently housed in a protective clear sleeve and appears to have been well-preserved.
