Description

This Royal Air Force special edition commemorative card is dedicated to the Handley Page Halifax heavy bomber and its operational history with No. 158 Squadron. The card is personally hand-signed in black ink by the late Warrant Officer Harry Irons DFC (1924–2021). Serving as a rear gunner, Irons completed two full tours of operations, totalling 60 sorties over occupied Europe, and survived being shot down. No. 158 Squadron was a key Halifax unit based at RAF Lissett during the latter half of the war. The card features the squadron motto Strength in unity and includes a printed confirmation of the signature’s authenticity. Harry Irons was a highly respected veteran and a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, a premier gallantry award for officers and warrant officers of the air forces, recognised for his tireless work for Bomber Command veterans in his later years.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent, near-mint condition, showing no signs of foxing, creasing, or sunlight fading. The signature is bold, clear, and remains in a high state of preservation. The item is presented within a clear plastic archival display sleeve.
