Lot 195:
Description
A special edition commemorative card dedicated to the Handley Page Halifax heavy bomber and No. 158 Squadron, Royal Air Force. This squadron was a key component of Bomber Command during the Second World War, famously operating from RAF Lissett. The card features the squadron motto Strength in unity and is hand-signed to the centre by Flight Lieutenant A.T. Coles, DFC. Beneath his signature, the veteran has added a handwritten inscription reading Y YOKE, denoting the individual aircraft identification letter of the Halifax he flew during operational sorties. The Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) was awarded to officers for acts of valour, courage, or devotion to duty while flying in active operations against the enemy. Items signed by decorated Bomber Command veterans that include specific aircraft provenance are highly regarded by aviation historians and RAF collectors.
Condition report:
The card is in excellent, near-mint condition. It shows no signs of foxing, creasing, or edge wear. The signature and handwritten inscription are bold and clear. The item is currently housed in a clear plastic protective document sleeve.
