Description

An original Special Edition commemorative card relating to the Avro Lancaster and No. 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force. The card is personally hand-signed in black ink by the notable veteran pilot Flight Lieutenant R.R. Rusty Waughman DFC, AFC. Flight Lieutenant Russell Rusty Waughman (1923–2020) was a distinguished Second World War Lancaster pilot who served with No. 101 Squadron based at RAF Ludford Magna. No. 101 Squadron was a specialised unit within Bomber Command tasked with Airborne Cigar (ABC) radio-jamming operations. These aircraft carried an extra crew member to operate equipment designed to disrupt German night-fighter communications, a high-risk role that made the squadron’s Lancasters primary targets for the Luftwaffe. The card features the squadron’s motto Mind over matter (a translation of Mens Agitat Molem) and the printed name and gallantry awards of the signatory. Waughman’s DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) and AFC (Air Force Cross) signify a career of exceptional bravery and skill. This item represents a significant piece of RAF Bomber Command ephemera.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent, clean condition with a clear, bold signature. It is currently housed within a protective clear plastic sleeve. The paper remains bright with no signs of foxing, toning, or creasing. The signature is well-placed and remains dark and legible.
