Description

A professionally printed Special Edition commemorative card dedicated to the Avro Lancaster heavy bomber, personally signed by Flight Lieutenant Ron Homes, DFC. Flight Lieutenant Homes was a veteran pilot who served with No. 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force, during the European theatre of operations in the Second World War. The card features the squadron designation and the translated motto, Mind over matter. No. 101 Squadron held a unique and hazardous role within Bomber Command, specialising in airborne radio jamming (codenamed ABC or Airborne Cigar) to disrupt German night-fighter communications. Due to the extra crew member and the radio equipment carried, these aircraft were specifically targeted by the Luftwaffe, leading to the squadron suffering the highest casualty rate of any Lancaster-equipped unit. The signature of a Distinguished Flying Cross recipient from such a specialised unit provides a significant link to the electronic warfare history of the RAF.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent, near-mint condition. The signature of Ron Homes is rendered in black ink and remains bold and clear with no evidence of fading. The card stock is clean, free from foxing, creasing, or yellowing. It is currently housed in a clear plastic protective sleeve for preservation.
