Description

A Royal Air Force specialised edition commemorative card dedicated to No. 45 Squadron and their operation of the De Havilland Hornet aircraft. This item is hand-signed in black ink by Flight Lieutenant John Wilson, a veteran pilot who flew the Hornet with the squadron during the Malayan Emergency (1948–1960). The signature is clear and accompanied by the unit designation 45 SQN. The card features the squadron motto, Per ardua surgo (Through difficulties I arise). Historically, No. 45 Squadron transitioned to the De Havilland Hornet F.3 in 1951, operating from RAF Tengah in Singapore. The Hornet was a formidable long-range ground attack aircraft, playing a crucial role in strikes against communist insurgents during the campaign. Signed ephemera relating to the Hornet is particularly sought after by collectors of late-piston era aviation and post-war British colonial conflicts.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent, near-mint condition. There are no visible signs of foxing, yellowing, or creasing to the card stock. The signature remains bold, dark, and unfaded. The item is currently protected within a clear plastic sleeve.
