Description

A special edition commemorative card dedicated to the Bristol Blenheim and its service with No. 23 Squadron, Royal Air Force. The card is personally signed in ink by Flight Lieutenant Wyndham Redvers Kennedy Hughes, DFC, AE. Flt Lt Hughes is officially recorded as one of “The Few,” the airmen who participated in the Battle of Britain between July and October 1940. During this pivotal period, No. 23 Squadron operated as a night fighter unit, utilising the Bristol Blenheim IF. The card features the squadron’s official motto, “Always on the attack.” Hughes was a distinguished veteran who was later awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for his service with No. 604 (County of Middlesex) Squadron and held the Air Efficiency Award (AE). This item is a significant piece of RAF ephemera, honouring the specialised and often overlooked role of night fighter crews during the defence of the United Kingdom.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent condition, appearing well-preserved with no evidence of foxing, yellowing, or creasing. The printed text and squadron details are crisp. The signature of Flt Lt Hughes is bold, clear, and remains unfaded. The item is housed in a protective plastic sleeve which has prevented any surface wear.
