Lot 247:
Description
A Special Edition commemorative card dedicated to the Bristol Beaufighter aircraft and its operational history with No. 176 Squadron, Royal Air Force. This unit was a specialist night-fighter squadron re-formed in India during January 1943 to provide night defence for Calcutta and other strategic locations within the South East Asia Command (SEAC). The card is personally signed in black ink by Squadron Leader D. Brocklehurst, a veteran pilot who flew Beaufighters with the squadron during the Burma campaign. The card features the squadron motto, We keep the night watch, and includes printed text verifying the signatory’s service history. Such ephemera provides a tangible link to the specialist radar-equipped night-fighter operations conducted against Japanese air raids in the Far East.
Condition report:
The card is in excellent, near-mint condition. The card stock remains bright with no evidence of foxing, toning, or creasing. The signature of Squadron Leader Brocklehurst is bold, clear, and shows no signs of fading. The item is currently protected within a clear plastic display sleeve.
