Lot 255:
Description
A rare Special Edition commemorative card dedicated to the Hawker Hurricane, hand-signed by Flight Lieutenant Ron “Bunny” Williams of No. 34 Squadron, Royal Air Force. The card features the squadron’s designation and the English translation of their Latin motto, Lupus vult, lupus volat (Wolf wishes, wolf flies). This specific edition was produced to honour veterans who operated the Hurricane in the South East Asia Command (SEAC) during the Second World War. No. 34 Squadron had a distinguished record in the Burma campaign, having transitioned from Bristol Blenheims to Hawker Hurricanes in November 1943. Under SEAC, the squadron performed vital ground-attack and fighter-reconnaissance roles, supporting the Allied advance against Japanese forces. Items associated with the “Forgotten Army” and the air war over Burma are highly sought after by RAF and Burma Star collectors for their historical significance in a challenging and often overlooked theatre of operations.
Condition report:
The card is in excellent, near-mint condition. The card stock remains bright with sharp, un-bumped corners and clean edges. The printed text is crisp and legible. The signature by Flight Lieutenant Williams is executed in bold blue ink and remains vibrant with no signs of fading or smudging. The item is currently preserved within a clear protective plastic sleeve.
