Description

A commemorative Special Edition document honouring the de Havilland Mosquito and the service of No. 248 Squadron, Royal Air Force, during the Second World War. The card is hand-signed in black ink by Flying Officer Henry Alec Corbin, CGM. Corbin was a highly distinguished veteran who served as a navigator with No. 248 Squadron, Coastal Command, operating in the European Theatre. The inclusion of the post-nominal letters CGM refers to the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal, an extremely rare award for valour second only to the Victoria Cross for non-commissioned personnel at the time of the action. No. 248 Squadron was noted for its maritime strike and long-range fighter operations, particularly against enemy shipping and U-boats. The card features a blue double-line border, the squadron designation, and the poignant quote, It is necessary to make an end of it. The document includes a printed statement of authenticity regarding the veteran’s signature. This item represents a significant piece of RAF biographical history, specifically linked to the legendary Wooden Wonder aircraft. Approximately 148mm x 210mm.

Condition report:

The document has been well-preserved and is currently housed in a clear protective plastic sleeve. No creases, tears, or previous mounting marks are present.
