Description

This is a Special Edition commemorative collector’s card dedicated to the De Havilland Mosquito and the No. 540 Photo Reconnaissance Unit (PRU) of the Royal Air Force. The card features the unit’s Latin motto, Sine qua non (Without which, nothing). It is hand-signed in black ink by Flight Lieutenant Mike Randles, a veteran pilot who flew the Mosquito with No. 540 PRU during operations in the European theatre. The De Havilland Mosquito, famously known as the Wooden Wonder due to its unconventional spruce and plywood construction, was one of the most versatile and effective multi-role combat aircraft of the Second World War. No. 540 Squadron was formed at RAF Benson in October 1942 and performed vital high-altitude strategic reconnaissance missions. The card was likely produced for a commemorative event or as part of a limited edition series for aviation historians and collectors. Transcribed text includes: DE HAVILLAND MOSQUITO; No. 540 Photo Reconnaissance Unit Royal Air Force; Sine qua non; Flight Lieutenant M. Randles; This Special Edition card has been personally signed by a Veteran who flew in the De Havilland Mosquito while serving with No 540 Photo Reconnaissance Unit in Europe. Dimensions: Approx. 150mm x 105mm.
