Description

A Special Edition commemorative card dedicated to the Hawker Typhoon aircraft and No. 193 Squadron (the Fellowship Squadron) of the Royal Air Force. This piece of aviation ephemera is personally signed in black ink by Flight Lieutenant David Henry Gerson Ince, DFC (1921–2017). The card features a blue double-line border and is printed with the squadron motto: To govern the air and the earth. A printed caption at the base confirms the provenance, stating the card was signed by a veteran who flew the Typhoon with 193 Squadron in Europe. Flight Lieutenant Ince was a distinguished pilot who completed over 150 combat sorties during the Second World War, serving with both 193 and 257 Squadrons. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) in 1945 for his skill and gallantry during low-level ground-attack missions against enemy transport and infrastructure in North-west Europe. Following his military service, he became a prominent figure in the British gliding community and authored the wartime memoir Combat and Other Shenanigans.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent, as-issued condition with no evidence of foxing, creasing, or age-related wear. The signature of Flt Lt Ince is bold, clear, and remains unfaded. The item is housed in a clear protective archival sleeve.
