Description

This is a Special Edition commemorative card printed on heavy white cardstock featuring orange typography within a double-line gold border. The card is hand-signed in black ink by Flight Lieutenant Rodney Scrase, DFC (1920-2021), a distinguished Royal Air Force veteran who flew both Hurricanes and Spitfires during the Second World War. The card honours the Hawker Hurricane aircraft and its service with No. 71 Operational Training Unit (OTU), which was based in Egypt and Sudan during the conflict to train fighter pilots for the Desert Air Force. Transcription of printed text: HAWKER HURRICANE No. 71 Operational Training Unit Royal Air Force. This Special Edition card has been personally signed by a Veteran who flew the Hawker Hurricane while serving with No. 71 Operational Training Unit in Egypt. Rodney Scrase was a highly regarded pilot who served with No. 1 and No. 72 Squadrons, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944 for his gallantry during operations over Sicily and Italy.
