Description

A special edition commemorative card personally signed by Flight Lieutenant Anthony Charles William Fairhead, DFC, BVSc, MRCVS. Fairhead served with No. 184 Squadron of the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, flying Hawker Hurricanes in a specialised ground-attack role across Europe. No. 184 Squadron was notable for its use of rocket-projectile armed Hurricanes, playing a significant part in tactical operations during the liberation of Europe and the Battle of Normandy. The card features the squadron motto Nothing impenetrable (Nihil Impervium) and confirms Fairhead’s status as a veteran pilot of the unit. Fairhead was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his gallantry and devotion to duty during these hazardous operations. Post-war, he pursued a career in veterinary medicine, as indicated by his professional qualifications printed on the card. The signature is rendered clearly in blue ink on a white cardstock base with a blue double-line border.

Condition report:

The card is in excellent, near-mint condition. The signature remains bold and perfectly legible with no signs of fading or ink spread. There is no evidence of foxing, staining, or creasing to the cardstock. The item is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve and appears to have been well-preserved.
